About the Trust

The Atisha Charitable Trust (ACT) represents a community of monastics and laity, following the Ganden Oral Transmission Lineage (GOT), an offshoot of the Mahayana Vajrayana Tradition of Buddhism.

The charter to the ACT established earlier by its founder, the 13th Kundeling Rimpoche, was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 of the Karnataka State, as a Charitable Trust, on the 3rd of May 1994, in the city of Bengaluru.

Today, its headquarters exists at the fringe of the Arasinakere Village in the Mysore District, precisely 26 kilometers away from the heritage city of Mysore.

As enshrined in its aims and objectives, the ACT's avowed goal is to promote spiritual, educational, and philanthropic activities. For its easy functioning, the Trust obtains its funds from overseas under the Foreign Contributions Regulations Act 1976 (FCRA) as per the decree of the Ministry Of Home (MOH), India.

Bestowed to the Trust on the 26th of September 2005, it entitles the Trust to receive unlimited funds to serve its objectives and exempts it from taxes.

The Kundeling Monastery  has been and is the principal undertaking of the Trust, as per the bylaws and approval of the State Government and the Income Tax Department of India, since 1996. The upkeep in terms of spiritual and secular education, boarding, meals, clothing, health, excursions and recreation is the primary undertaking of this Trust. As foot soldiers, the community of the Kundeling monastery are on the frontline to all tasks and shouldering the responsibilities to realise the spiritual and secular goals of the ACT.
